         About LDS Culture

“For Zion must increase in beauty, and in holiness; her borders must be enlarged; her stakes must be strengthened; yea, verily I say unto you Zion must arise and put on her beautiful garments.” [Doctrine & Covenants 82:14]

Preston Temple, England

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of LDS Culture (UK & Ireland)™ is to stimulate, publicise and distribute quality, uplifting cultural resources produced by British and Irish-based member artistes of all ages and ethnic groups.

Intended outcomes include:

1.     The support of an increasingly thriving and growing community of British and Irish based LDS talent whose cultural and inspirational artefacts and services  become  valued and widely available to the LDS community in Britain, Ireland and the world.

2.    Strengthening and enriching personal, family, church, economic, social cultural and community life.

3.  Increasing opportunities for the positive influence of the Restored Gospel message to reach the wider British and Irish communities.

4.    The establishment of a central and independent organisation - LDS Culture (UK & Ireland)™ - dedicated to lifting LDS culture in the British Isles

Development Phases

LDS Culture (UK & Ireland)™ is in its second phase of development.  This includes the publication of the first edition of the product catalogue making available for sale a range of quality cultural items generated by UK and Irish LDS members.  L

DS Culture continues its call for artistes, products and personnel experienced in business, artistic production, world wide web technology and communications to help establish an influential and thriving organisation supporting an expanding network of UK/Eire originated cultural activity.

Soon LDS Culture will provide an ever-increasing exciting and enriching range of forums and services for members of all ages and backgrounds concerning many aspects of cultural, social and economic life.

 Terry O’Dea, LDS Culture founder:

Early in December 2001, based in Orpington Kent, Terry O'Dea had the idea  to increase the availability and production of LDS inspired music and song, literature and arts from the UK and Eire.  Terry had been involved with numerous dramatic, musical, artistic and general cultural events in the London area since 1972 - serving as Stake and Ward Music Chairman and Stake Activities Chairman.

Having seen some outstanding performances, heard of others and seen many fine works of art from a wide variety of cultural groups - all worthy of being shared by the wider audience, and all representative of the wholesome values of the Restored Gospel- it seemed that the time had come to begin really putting British and Irish based culture into a higher gear.

Professionally, Terry has worked as a teacher of science in London secondary schools for over 25 years and is now working as an educational consultant for a London education authority.

The Internet

Due to the development of the internet and the ever-increasing access to it, it became clear that the way to promote and inspire heightened activity amongst members could be achieved centrally through a website publicising and forming a means of creating a network amongst the creative LDS community members. It would also be a central distribution and show-case medium for LDS member commercially produced CD's, books, art and craft works, etc.

Purpose

And so LDS Culture (UK & Ireland)™ has been conceived to accomplish just that - with particular emphasis on encouraging home-grown British and Irish based talent at all levels and across a wide range of cultural activities..

In conclusion

As LDS Culture becomes better-known and increasingly more supported, a new confidence will emerge amongst not only LDS artistes but within the LDS community generally as our ideas and values are articulated more and more and our sophistication and profusion increase. The prospect of being involved with such an exciting and worthwhile enterprise is thrilling.

We look forward to your support in this initiative - through honing and sharing your own gifts and talent, or by suggesting to talented individuals that you know to contact LDS Culture, or simply as a customer pleased to have a wider choice of cultural products to choose from for yourself or as a gift to a loved one!

Thanks for visiting LDS Culture.
